No Widow Left Behind Program
At the “No Widow Left Behind Program,” Dr. Bridgette Y. Williams is on a mission to advocate for creating laws at the federal and state levels that benefit the widows and widowers of veterans.
In Virginia and nationwide, several rights and benefits are provided to veterans after they retire from the military. These benefits are well-deserved and help to honor the sacrifices these brave individuals have made. However, when these veterans pass away, very few of these benefits are passed on to their surviving spouses.
MISSION & GOAL
Our primary mission and goal are simple yet profound: to advocate for creating laws that directly benefit the surviving spouses of veterans. It’s time to ensure that these survivors are not left to navigate legal obstacles and financial hardships alone.
For example, one pressing issue we aim to address is the lack of real estate tax exemption for surviving spouses in Virginia, available in many other states. This is just one example of the rights and benefits accorded to veterans but not passed on to their surviving spouses.
We envision concrete laws that bridge this gap addressing the rights of surviving spouses and providing the support they rightfully deserve. Additionally, we aspire to see a government-sponsored support group for surviving spouses in Virginia, where they can find community, understanding, and resources to navigate life after their loved one’s passing.
How You Can Get Involved
This is not just a program; it’s a movement. You can make a difference by supporting our cause. Whether you’re a surviving spouse, a concerned citizen, or a legislator, your involvement is crucial to ensuring no widow or widower is left behind.
Join us in our advocacy efforts, and together, we can work towards a future where surviving spouses of veterans have the rights, benefits, and support they need to move forward with dignity.
